Step 1: Remove the laces.

The first step is to remove the laces that makes it easier to clean. You can either wash them separately with soapy water to get rid of dirt or get new ones laces if you notice they’re old or worn out once you’re done with the cleaning

Step 2: Clean loose dirt and debris.

Use a soft cloth or a brush to remove any grime that may be stuck to the shoe’s leather surfaces. The goal here is removing any loose dirt or salt particles which can damage the leather eventually. Try to stay away from using a brush that is too firm as that will scratch the leather. Ideally, you should give your boots a quick brush after each time you wear them outside. But a minimum of once a week is enough.

Step 3: Apply soap.

Mix a solution of warm water and dish soap, dip a soft cloth into it, wring it out and wipe the exterior surfaces of the shoe. Get the damp rag and rub it over your saddle soap to create a light lather. Then rub the lather over the boots, especially over areas that need extra scrubbing. But take note you don’t have to do this every time you clean – only for those really stubborn stains.

Step 4: Wipe off soap.

Use a second clean, damp cloth to wipe off the soap. Dry with a towel. Warm, soapy water will also remove water stains and scuffs. Let the boots air dry for 10 minutes. Then expect them to look good as new afterward.

Step 5: Apply leather conditioner.

Apply leather conditioner to protect from stains and to add shine. You can buy a commercial leather conditioner or make your own by mixing 1 part vinegar to 2 parts linseed oil. Leather is made from the skin of animals, so it is important to keep the leather from drying out too much Apply the conditioner and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Step 6: Dry

-Wipe the boots with a clean, damp cloth.
-Buff them dry with a soft cloth

Mix equal parts of lemon juice and cream of tartar into a paste. Apply to stained area and let sit for 30 minutes. Use a damp cloth to remove the paste. Lemon juice and cream of tartar have a mild bleaching effect, so only use this on light-colored leather.
